Female Tornado Pilot to Speak at FLTA Safety Conference
On the 29th June, the Fork Lift Truck Association’s (FLTA) National Fork Lift Safety Conference will take place for the 14th year. The conference sees industry insiders from across the country meet up in Coventry to share knowledge and advice on all aspects of forklift safety. The theme for this year’s event is Leadership and Ownership, with issues such as staff accountability being debated. Jo Salter, Britain’s first female fast jet pilot and successful management consultant, is taking part in the event, sharing her previous experience of being entrusted with military hardware worth £25 million.
Jo Salter: An inspiration
As a member of the “Dambuster” 617 Squadron who flew a Tornado aircraft over Iraq in 1996 – when at the time she was one of only five female fighter pilots in the world – Jo Salter has always been known as an inspiration, with Harpers & Queen magazine naming her one of the 50 most inspiring women, but Salter is also an academic and business expert. Alongside her action packed military career, Salter also studied for her MBA and is currently working as a management consultant and delivering leadership lectures at the Open University Business School.
With so many achievements to her name we can think of no one better to speak on leadership and ownership at this year’s highly anticipated event. Salter can expect to speak to managers from companies of all sizes and sectors, all of which will be eagerly awaiting her advice and likely enthralling stories.
The conference
The conference, which is taking place at the Heart of England Conference Centre in Coventry, will begin with registration and welcoming drinks at 7.45am and end with networking and lunch at 1.10pm. The conference has a wide and varied list of events and talks scheduled, including a talk on injury consequence at 8.45am, the keynote address by HSE Alan Craddock and leadership training by Stuart Taylor, a FLT Mentor. Jo Salter’s guest speaker slot is at 12.10pm, and the day will also present opportunities for networking with other industry insiders and some highly illustrative case studies from major brands such as Heineken and Mitsubishi.
The event has always proved to be a huge success, and a massive learning experience for all guests, enabling companies across the country to improve and expand upon their own working environments.
